The National Sports Collectors Convention in Cleveland ended on a sour note as a sports card dealer fell victim to a significant theft. The 48-year-old dealer from New Jersey found himself at a loss of approximately $275,000 in cash on the final day of the event.
The unfortunate incident took place at the I-X Center, where the dealer was in the midst of loading his SUV post-convention. Among the stolen items were two iPads and a black briefcase containing the sizable sum of money. Despite believing he had locked his SUV, the dealer returned to find the briefcase missing.
Local authorities from the Cleveland Police First District began investigating the theft promptly. They discovered the abandoned briefcase, with an air tag attached, on the I-X Center premises. However, the cash that had been stored inside the briefcase was nowhere to be found.
A potential lead in the case came from eyewitnesses who reported seeing two suspects fleeing the scene in a blue Honda Odyssey van. The authorities are now on the lookout for these individuals to gather more information and hopefully make progress in solving the case.
