Rookie Cards of Top NFL Quarterbacks Soar in Value During Playoffs

During the current NFL playoffs, the performances of the final four quarterbacks have not only captivated fans on the field but also sparked a frenzy in the sports memorabilia market. Their rare rookie cards have been generating intense bidding wars in online auctions. These quarterbacks include the esteemed Patrick Mahomes II from the Kansas City Chiefs, the sensational second-year player Brock Purdy from the San Francisco 49ers, the versatile Lamar Jackson from the Baltimore Ravens, and the emerging veteran Jared Goff from the Detroit Lions.

Fans eagerly anticipate the AFC Championship game, featuring a thrilling matchup between Mahomes, a two-time Super Bowl champion, and Jackson, who is currently the top contender for the 2023 NFL MVP award. On the other hand, the NFC championship will showcase Purdy and Goff, both among the top five in passing yards and ranked third and fourth, respectively, in passing touchdowns for the season. The battle between these talented quarterbacks promises to be one for the books.

In the world of sports collectibles, the rookie cards of these four quarterbacks have attracted considerable attention and fetched high bids on popular online auction platforms throughout January. One standout item is an autographed 2017 Panini National Treasures Black card of Patrick Mahomes, which was sold for an impressive $19,300 after receiving 62 bids. Another notable Mahomes item, a 2017 signed Panini Contenders Rookie Ticket card graded BGS 9.5, fetched $16,577 from 51 bids.

Brock Purdy’s 2022 Playoff Contenders signed Rookie Ticket card, with its rare “Cracked Ice” variation, also garnered significant interest. This particular card, graded PSA 10 and one of only 22 made, sold for an impressive $10,268 after receiving 27 bids. This sale aligns with the ongoing trend of Purdy rookie cards selling for over $10,000. For example, a 2022 National Treasures signed patch card graded PSA 9 recently went for $15,000 after receiving 53 bids.

Lamar Jackson’s rookie cards have also seen a surge in popularity, with a Gem-Mint 2018 Panini Prizm Black Finite card fetching an astounding $51,100 after receiving 76 bids. Another highly sought-after item from Jackson is a 2018 National Treasures autographed patch card, numbered #27/99 and graded BGS 9.5, which sold for an impressive $18,000 after receiving 39 bids.

Despite a mixed start with the Los Angeles Rams and subsequent improvement since joining the Detroit Lions, Jared Goff’s rookie cards are also generating growing interest. A 2019 Panini Absolute Kaboom! card, featuring a gold variation marked #6/10, recently went for an impressive $3,049 after receiving 50 bids. Additionally, a 2016 Donruss Optic Gold Prizm rookie card graded BGS 10 and marked #2/10 was sold for $2,950 after receiving 32 bids.

As the NFL playoffs intensify, the excitement on the field directly translates to the sports memorabilia market, where the rookie cards of these top quarterbacks continue to prove their value as highly sought-after items. Collectors and fans alike are eagerly participating in online auctions, driving up the prices and making these cards even more valuable.
